At De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) your work will have an impact on monetary policy, financial stability and sustainable prosperity. With your research, you will make key contributions to policy discussions related to labor market shortages, the interaction between wages and prices, labor productivity growth and broader welfare effects. You are expected to contribute to topical policy debates, publish in scientific journals and are encouraged to participate in conferences and research networks.

This is what you will be doing as a research economist at DNB

As a macro-labor research economist, you will work in the Department of Macro and Business Cycle Analysis within the Economic Policy and Research Division at DNB. We are seeking enthusiastic colleagues who hold, or are close to completing, a PhD in macroeconomics, labor economics or econometrics with a focus on modeling the interaction between labor market developments and the broader economy. Besides the focus on labor market, analyzing the interaction between wages and prices and the development of labor productivity growth are also in scope. The insights from your work are important ingredients in advising DNB board members and other policymakers, both in the Netherlands and in the European System of Central Banks. You proactively engage in dialogue with experts inside and outside DNB to achieve synergy between research and policy.


What exactly does your job involve?

 

You contribute to policy debates on labor market developments and their macroeconomic implications by:

  • Conducting policy-oriented economic research and reporting your results in policy notes and scientific journals.
  • Developing econometric models that address the impact of labor market developments (e.g., labor shortages, wage growth) and related policy measures on the course of the economy.
  • Building a network of stakeholders both in the Dutch government (e.g., Ministry of Social Affairs) and in the European System of Central Banks (e.g., ESCB Wage Expert Group) to exchange insights and influence policy debates.

The Economic Policy & Research Division at DNB is responsible for a broad range of topics, including domestic economic policies, business cycle analysis and monetary policy. The Division consists of around 70 staff members split into five departments. You will come to work in the Department of Business Cycle and Macro Analysis, which is responsible for monitoring and analyzing macro-economic developments both in the Netherlands and in the Euro Area, with a particular focus on inflation and on labor markets. We work in an informal atmosphere with ample room for academic research and personal development. We encourage you to participate in scientific conferences and research networks and we offer plenty of training facilities.

You are able to extract insights from the policy debate to formulate questions for academic research, and can in turn explain research results in an accessible way and formulate clear policy recommendations. What other characteristics are we looking for?

  • A PhD (or close to completing a PhD) in macroeconomics, labor economics or econometric modelling.
  • Experience in applied economic research and knowledge of econometric methods.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Written and oral communication in English are excellent and you are willing to learn Dutch (training courses are available).

You will initially be working on a one-year contract, with the prospect of an extension, provided you have performed well and our organisation has not undergone any changes that affect your job.

The other excellent terms and conditions of employment for this position are:

  • A salary of at least € 3.900.-- and a maximum of € 5.600.-- gross per month, which amounts to a gross annual salary of at least € 58.000,-- and a maximum of € 82.000,-- based on a 36-hour working week (including 13th month, personnel budget and holiday allowance). The final salary depends, among other things, on your expertise and experience.
  • Free choose when you want your 13th month, 8% holiday allowance calculated over 13 months and a freely disposable personal budget of 5.9% of your 12-month salary to be paid out.Your pension entitlements will accrue under a career-average scheme including provisional indexation, with a 6.83% employee contribution.
  • Full reimbursement of your public transport costs for commuting ór reimbursement of your costs with your own transport, at € 0.23 per km. It is possible to travel 1st class. A personal contribution of € 25 per month applies for this.
  • An internet allowance of € 50 net per month.

  • A healthy work-life balance. In this position, it is possible to divide your working week into 4 8 or 9-hour days.

01 - Verstuur je sollicitatie

02 - E-assessment

Voor de meeste vacatures vragen wij je om een online assessment te maken voorafgaand aan het eerste gesprek. Het assessment bestaat uit cognitieve testen en/of een persoonlijkheidsvragenlijst, en kun je gewoon thuis uitvoeren.

03 - Eerste gesprek

Tijdens dit gesprek leren we elkaar beter kennen. Dit gesprek vindt meestal plaats met de manager of een ervaren teamlid van de afdeling waar jouw vacature uitstaat en een recruiter.

04 - Tweede gesprek

Wanneer zowel jij als wij positief zijn na het eerste gesprek zien we je graag nogmaals terug. Bij dit vervolggesprek zijn meestal een andere manager uit dezelfde divisie en een (senior) teamlid van de afdeling waar jouw vacature uitstaat aanwezig.

05 - Casus, derde gesprek en/of assessment

Solliciteer je op een functie als toezichthouder of beleidsmedewerker? Dan wordt het eerste of het tweede gesprek vaak gecombineerd met het maken van een schrijfopdracht of een case study. Dit hoor je uiteraard ruim van tevoren. Afhankelijk van het niveau van de functie kan er nog een derde gesprek met de divisiedirecteur en/of een functiegericht (extern) assessment plaatsvinden.

06 - Arbeidsvoorwaardengesprek

Past DNB bij jou? En ben jij de juiste persoon voor de functie? Dan doet de recruiter je een contractaanbod tijdens het arbeidsvoorwaardengesprek. DNB valt als overheidswerkgever onder de Wet normalisering rechtspositie ambtenaren (Wnra). Dit bekent dat medewerkers van DNB de ambtenarenstatus krijgen. Dit wordt tijdens het arbeidsvoorwaardengesprek toegelicht. 

07 - Screening

08 - Welkom bij DNB
